Good morning and happy Friday to you all!

Since I’ve been cutting back on my fitness and experiencing a little anxiety with my decrease in exercise, I thought instead of focusing on fitness like I normally do on Friday’s, I’d do something different.  I will say that I am continuing to incorporate more active rest days along with my regular spin and circuit workouts.  If you missed why I’ve decided to cut back you can read about it here but otherwise I’m moving on for today :-)

I’ve seen a few other bloggers do a Five on Friday weekly post so I thought I’d join in and do something similar.

1. Sick – Seriously, who gets a cold during the summer?  I do!  The Love Nugget had a stuffy nose on Monday and of course I got it on Wednesday :-(

Luckily it doesn’t seem to be too intense so I’m just loading up on vitamin C, Zinc and taking it easy.

2.  Zoo – Despite not feeling great yesterday morning, I sucked it up and joined some friends at the zoo for one of The Love Nugget’s buddy’s birthday!

We got there early which was perfect as the weather has again warmed up to upper 90’s.   The boys had a blast playing around together and checking out all the animals.  They even got to feed a giraffe!

(Super fuzzy pic, sorry!)

The Love Nugget said he liked the monkeys the best and mimicked them throughout the rest of the day.  Little monkey man!

3. Peaches – Loving them lately.  We picked up a bunch last weekend while on our berry picking trip and have been loving them this week.   In particular, grilled and in this salad.

Honey Cinnamon Walnuts

1/4 cup raw walnuts

1 tbsp. raw organic honey

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

In a small frying pan, heat walnuts and honey until warm over medium heat.
Add cinnamon and continue cooking for 5 minutes stirring frequently.
Pour onto a piece of parchment paper and allow to cool.

Grilled Peaches

2 small organic peaches

1 tbsp. coconut oil

Cut and pit peaches then slice into 1 inch wedges.  Heat coconut oil in a grill pan over medium heat.  Add peaches and grill about 3-4 minutes per side.  Remove pan from heat and allow peaches to cool slightly.

Cinnamon Balsamic Dressing

1 clove garlic

1 tsp. dijon mustard

1 tsp. raw organic honey

Juice from half a lemon, about 1 tbsp.

dash of cinnamon

1/4 cup balsamic vinegar

2 tbsp. olive oil

Combine all ingredients in a small mason jar, shake and store in the refrigerator until ready to serve!

Put it all together!

Grilled Peach Arugula Salad with Cinnamon Honey Walnuts

3 cups Organic Arugula, washed and dried

Grilled peaches

Cinnamon Honey Walnuts

2 tbsp. goat cheese

2 pieces of cooked, diced turkey bacon, bacon or pancetta

Cinnamon Balsamic Dressing

It seems like a lot of steps but it’s really simple and really good!

4.  Cookies –  I’ve been enjoying these super yummy treats that were sent to me to try out a few weeks ago.

Caveman Cookies have the cleanest, most natural ingredients I’ve seen in a packaged cookie yet.  Not only that but they are really tasty!

The folks at the Caveman company are very passionate about making all natural foods with ingredients we can pronounce.  They also believe in creating foods that our ancestors could have enjoyed as well.  Which means they use ingredients that have naturally been around for hundreds of years.

Just take a look at the ingredients in a few of their cookies,

Original Caveman Cookies: honey, almond meal, walnuts, raisins, ginger, nutmeg, cinnamon.

Tropical Caveman Cookies: almond meal, honey, unsulfured coconut, macadamia nuts, ginger.

They also make an Alpine Caveman Cookie, a Rainforest Caveman Cookie, and a New World Caveman Cookie.  All of which I was lucky enough to try and were delicious!  All their cookies are gluten-free, peanut-free, dairy-free and all natural.  A big plus in my book!

5. Winner –  Congratulations to Hannah from Clean Eating Veggie Girl!

That’s it for today!  Hope everyone has a wonderful Friday and an awesome weekend!

Questions –

  • Have you had a summer cold this year?
  • Have you tried Caveman cookies?
  • Any fun plans for the weekend?
